The coin is issued on the occasion of the Republic of Cyprus assuming the Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first half of 2026. The coin depicts the myth of the castles of Rigena, as presented by the Press and Information Office of the Republic of Cyprus. It also depicts the logo of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first half of 2026, evoking the bright sun of Cyprus; A source of life, light, energy, renewal and hope for a common, sustainable and brighter European future. The coin was designed by the artist Giorgos Stamatopoulos. The minting was carried out by the Banknote and Securities Printing Foundation (I.E.T.A.) of the Bank of Greece.
CHARACTERISTICS AND SPECIFICATIONS OF THE COIN Design: Obverse: The emblem of the Central Bank of Cyprus, the words “CYPRUS”, “CYPRUS” and “KIBRIS” and the year “2026”. Reverse: Composition depicting Rigena overseeing her castles. Next to it is the logo of the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union for the first half of 2026. Around the perimeter of the coin is the phrase “THE CASTLES OF RIGAINA CYPRUS-KIBRIS”. The composition also depicts the face value of the coin, €5. The issue is limited to 2,000 coins in a case.
